Twalha Abbass PhD. Student in African Studies

Twalha Twaha Abass is pursuing a PhD. in folklore and holds a Masters in African Studies. He was the 2019-2020 Swahili Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) with the African Studies Program and has been actively engaged in teaching as well as outreach for the African Studies Program since arriving at IU. In 2021, he received an award for his work volunteering with Bridges: Children, Languages, World, teaching Kiswahili to children through the no-cost after-school program. Abass is the author of the novel, Kilio cha Mfamaji (The Drowner’s Cry), published in 2017 and The Cost of Dreams published in 2024.

Worked as a teacher for 13yrs at Nyakoora sec
Taught Grammar in London UK from Jan-Aug2023.
Currently a Graduate Teaching assistant at YSU where I teach writing courses to undergraduate students.
